What is the Mexican Official Norm-030-STPS-2009?

The Mexican Official Norm-030-STPS-2009, preventive occupational health and safety services published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on December 22, 2009. It aims to establish the functions and activities to be carried out by preventive occupational health and safety services in order to prevent occupational accidents and diseases.

Within this Mexican Official Norm-030-STPS-2009 it’s the duty of the employer to appoint a person responsible for safety and health at work, internal or external, to carry out the functions and preventive activities of safety and health at the workplace, make the occupational health and safety diagnosis, to draw up the occupational safety and health programme or list of preventive or corrective actions and actions to deal with health emergencies or contingencies recommended by the competent authorities.

As well as, establish the procedures, instructions, guides or records necessary to comply with the program of safety and health at work or the list of preventive and corrective actions of safety and health at work. To monitor progress in the implementation of the programme on safety and health at work and record the results of the monitoring of the programme or the list of preventive and corrective actions on safety and health at work.

The occupational safety and health programme shall contain at least:

• Preventive or corrective action to be implemented for each identified aspect.
• The actions and programs of promotion for the health of the workers and for the integral prevention of the addictions that recommend or dictate the competent authorities.
• The actions for the attention of emergencies and sanitary contingencies that recommend or dictate the competent authorities.
• The start and end dates scheduled for the implementation of preventive or corrective actions and for emergency response.
• The person responsible for the execution of each preventive or corrective action and for emergency care.
