Every time is more common to find fake products on sale either online or physical, that goes from fashion articles such as glasses, bags, caps, belts, shoes, clothes, toys, devices, appliances, to articles for face, hair or body treatment, medicines, makeup, food, alcoholic beverages, candies and cigarettes and even can be freely acquired works such as movies, music, software, and fake books, just to mention some of the most relevant examples.
And no matter the harm caused to the economy and health, about 41.9 million of Mexicans prefer to acquire this kind of products instead of the original ones, causing with its demand an increasing boom of this illegal market.
Due to this, The Specialized Investigation Unit for Crimes against Industrial and Copyrights of the National Attorney General’s Office, The Ministry of Economy, the Industrial Property Mexican Institute, The Ministry of Culture, The Copyrights National Institute, The Tax Administration Service, The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks, the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, the Central Customs Investigation Administration, the National Apparel Industry Chamber, the Mexico’s City National Trading Chamber, the Mexican publishing Industry National Chamber, the Cable TV Industry National Chamber, the Electronic Manufacture National Chamber, the Mexico’s Writers and Composers Society, the Mexican Center for the Copyrights Promotion and Protection, the Intellectual and Audio graphic Rights Protection Association, the Mexican Association for Audio and Video Producers and; the Multimedia, Video, and Audio National Producers Nonprofit Organization; and so many other public and private institutions work together.
Their main goal is to eradicate, pursue, and penalize the production, copy, importation, commercialization, sell, storing, transportation, leasing, distribution, and goods and products provision in a contrary way to the Criminal, Fiscal, Custom, and Sanitary Laws and of course the Industrial Property and Copyrights. It’s important to point out that these conduct besides being serious federal felonies in the intellectual property matter which are penalized with fines and jail, they are penalized in the administrative matter by other authorities through very high fines.
